Acceptable Technology Use Policy

Acceptable Use Policy

Students have access to the internet and technologies however, the use of these resources is a privilege and not a right. There are requirements for use of these resources and students who fail to adhere to this policy will face disciplinary action. It is the responsibility of the student to learn how to use the technology resources properly and follow appropriate guidelines in this policy.

Guidelines for acceptable use:

1. Personal use of computers is inacceptable. Computers are only used to complete school-related work and activities.

2. Students must receive permission prior to conducting searches or downloading on the internet and may only access approved websites and web pages.  Students should not attempt to bypass websites that have been blocked by the school.

3. Personal devices may be brought from home at the risk of the student. The school will not be responsible for loss, theft, or damage of the device.

4. Any problems or damages must be reported. Students should not attempt to fix anything on their own.

5.  Students must not share personal information or passwords online or with other students. Students must not send or upload images of themselves or others.

6.  Students may not break copyright laws or take credit for the work of others.

7.  Students should respect the privacy of other students but remember that their devices are not private from teachers. Teachers must always be able to see the student’s work.

8.  Students should not engage in cyber-bullying. This includes bullying, harassing, or threatening a person via text or social media. Students should also immediately report incidents in which they personally feel that they have been bullied.

Failure to comply to these guidelines may result in disciplinary action such as suspension or revocation of computer and internet use privileges or suspension from school.
